Equine Therapy
Working with, or even just being in the presence of, horses can help us discover new insights about ourselves and our relationships. These experiential therapeutic experiences are often transformative in nature and offer a different impact than talk therapy can alone.
Why horses?
I offer individuals and couples equine therapy in partnership with Terry Kozak at You Are Herd. As an Equine Specialist, Terry has decades of experience in being able to observe important subtleties that may occur between you and a horse, and offer suggestions on what these observations mean. How we show up with a horse is often how we show up in relationships and other parts of our lives. As your therapist, I will also be present for therapeutic support. We can utilize equine sessions exclusively, or in addition to our talk therapy work.
Horses are incredibly sensitive animals. Did you know they can hear our heartbeat from 4 feet away?! They provide us with a unique opportunity to examine how we are showing up in the world.

I know nothing about horses. This won't work for me.
This is probably the most common response I receive when suggesting equine therapy. You absolutely do not need to know anything about horses to participate in and benefit from equine therapy. In fact, not knowing much about horses may even be a benefit, as you will come in with less assumptions or preconceived notions!

I don't like, or am afraid of, horses.
We will never force anyone to participate in an activity in which they don't want to. That being said, experiential therapies are a wonderful place to face fears and overcome anxieties with professional support. If you are anxious, but find yourself a little curious, talk to us on how to make a plan to help you step into your growth zone with horses! You can even have a powerful experience with a horse without ever even touching the animal.

I have never ridden a horse.
That is okay! All of our equine sessions will take place with your feet on the ground.

I have a lot of experience with horses and want to ride!
Equine therapy sessions aim to focus on your emotional and/or spiritual energy, and for us "horse people," can challenge a lot of our previous experiences with horses. These sessions will help you slow down and attune in a different way to yourself and a horse that does not include riding. Many of us that grew up riding learned to do so with a focus on control. In an equine session, the focus will be on relationship and doing things with the horse rather than to the horse. Many of our clients with past experiences with horses say it is a rewarding experience to learn how to connect differently!
